Panel members serve as the profession's representatives in evaluating new and continuing HIM academic programs, either by means of evaluation of periodic annual reports, or through site visits. Both processes identify areas where further investigation may be necessary. When required, they visit the program's campus and interview program officials, members of the communities of interest, and students. Findings are communicated to the Commission, who uses the information gathered by panel members to make a recommendation on the accreditation status of a program.
