Application Stages for Candidacy Status

STAGE 1: Registration

New Accounts

Non-registered programs must first create a Username and Password at the Programs/Login page.

After the registration process is completed you will receive a confirmation e-mail and system help information. You may enter and leave the application at any point before final submission. Always remember to SAVE your information before exiting by executing the SAVE button on the screen on which you are working. Save the system confirmation e-mail that contains your ID and Password that you created, so that you can re-enter the system.

Returning Users

STAGE 2: Application - Required Documents for Submission (forms can be found at CAS System Resources)

Submit the following (2) documents using the "Supporting Documents" function. All forms must be saved and submitted as PDf documents.

1. Synopsis of Curriculum

2. Program Director's Updated Curriculum Vitae

Complete the template and all questions as instructed in the system and submit your application along with requested documents.

If you also have the following information ready, it should be fairly quick to go through the entire process:

  1. Name, credentials/degree, title, address, phone, email, fax for program director, dean, and chief executive/president of your college/university.
  2. Name of the college/university’s regional or national accrediting agency and date of last site visit/accreditation.

At the conclusion you can Print the Summary of what you have submitted.

Programs must complete the Application for Candidacy within 30 days of the registration date or the program's registration and access may be removed.

Staff Review

Once the program's application is submitted, the information will be assessed for compliance with the CAHIIM Criteria for Candidacy. Applications will be denied if this criteria is not implemented at the application stage.

Upon notification of this status, the program will be given access to the Self-Assessement Stage. The program will also be issued an invoice for the Candidacy Application Fee (Due within 30 days).

For HIM Undergraduate Programs Only: Educational Program Code (EPC) issued. For use with AHIMA Student Membership, access through www.AHIMA.org.

STAGE 3: The HIM Self-Assessment Process

Timeline: Programs may complete this section at their own pace. However programs are encouraged to complete this section as soon as possible in order to move forward with the program assessment stage. Program applicants are also encouraged to contact Staff through the system should any questions arise.
