This day and a half workshop presented by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM) is designed to assist health information management programs seeking initial accreditation to prepare for the process, review the new 2012 Accreditation Standards and curriculum requirements, and assess overall readiness. The workshop provides an opportunity to meet with the CAHIIM staff and CAHIIM volunteers, walk through the steps to using the online CAHIIM Accreditation System (CAS), get advice on curriculum, and instructions on how to prepare the required documentation within the self assessment process.

The workshop agenda will cover:


-The fundamentals of CAHIIM accreditation and policies

- Interpretation of the 2012 Accreditation Standards

-A step‐by‐step guide to the program self‐assessment process using the CAS online system

-Curriculum design guidance and syllabus requirements

-Evaluation instruments and test item construction

-Effective professional practice experiences

-Constructing a meaningful program evaluation plan and outcomes assessment techniques

-General program and faculty management guidelines

-Guidelines and preparation for the site visit
