Value and Awareness
The Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM) strives to provide the public with effective and consistent quality monitoring of health information management (HIM) programs through maintenance of accreditation processes.
For HIM programs, CAHIIM provides tools for assessing continuous quality improvement through the Annual Program Assessment Report (APAR). CAHIIM accreditation supports entry-level competency and job marketability for your graduates, recruitment opportunities through the online accredited Program Directory, eligibility for a variety of services, scholarships, stipends and resources offered by AHIMA, and provides a quality review letter following a review of your previous year’s APAR, which provides advice and suggestions for the next report.
Health Informatics (HI) program accreditation is also served through the partnership with academe, through colleges and universities through our voluntary peer review process as a means to continuously improve quality in health informatics education to meet healthcare workforce needs.
Following are additional resources for the public to understand the value added aspects of accreditation status in the U.S. for individuals in seeking and deciding to attend an accredited program and institution.
