2017 Master of Health Informatics Standards Compliance

Deadline: Programs accredited under the 2012 CAHIIM Master of Health Informatics Standards must be in compliance with the new, 2017 MHI Standards on or by September 10, 2021.  CAHIIM requires all programs to submit their compliance materials by August 31, 2021, for review prior to this compliance deadline.  Failure to comply will place the program on Administrative Probationary Accreditation.
What is 2017 Standard Compliance?

A CAHIIM accredited Master of Health Informatics program is accredited under standards that have since been updated and/or modified. Programs are asked to demonstrate they have adapted the 2017 standard changes and/or requirements into their programs.

Programs must demonstrate compliance to the new 2017 Standards by providing evidence that serves to validate that they have realigned their program to changes in the standards. This modified review allows CAHIIM to confirm that the program is aware of the current standard requirements without the program having to undergo the time and expense of a comprehensive review. This review does not take the place of the continuing accreditation process.

What changed in the 2012 to the 2017 Standards?

Standard 13. Program Specific Curriculum – Master of Health Informatics curriculum changed from the 2012 Facet- based curriculum to the current Foundational Domain competency-based curriculum.

      Standard 13. Program Specific Curriculum
The program’s curriculum must reflect the program’s mission, goals and objectives. The curriculum must build on the minimum health informatics competencies as specified in the AMIA Competencies for Health Informatics Education at the master’s degree Level. The curriculum must include evaluation methods used to assess student learning outcomes. The curriculum must focus on the knowledge, skills and values as outlined by the program. CAHIIM will validate alignment of competencies and outcome assessments with the program’s mission, goals and objectives.

Who does it affect?

Master of Health Informatics programs accredited or in the process of seeking accreditation, prior to January 2018.
