In Memory of Timothy Patrick, PhD

  • Dates: 05 Dec, 1954 – 21 Sep, 2020
CAHIIM would like to offer our sincerest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Tim Patrick, PhD, who passed away on Monday, September 21, 2020.

Dr. Tim Patrick was an original faculty member in the Department of Health Management and Informatics at University of Missouri when it was formed in 1997. Prior to that, he served as a faculty member and NLM post-doc Fellow in University of Missouri's Medical Informatics Group (MIG) and the (then) School of Library and Information Sciences (SLIS).  With an MS in Computer Science and PhD in Philosophy from Mizzou, Dr. Patrick was a passionate researcher and teacher.

In 2005, Dr. Patrick left University of Missouri for the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where he became an Associate Professor and department Chair to establish the Health Informatics & Administration Department, which he chaired for five years.  For 15 years, Dr. Patrick provided outstanding mentoring to faculty and students during a time in which University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee launched and developed an interdisciplinary Biomedical and Health Informatics PhD program.

He retired from University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in June 2020 and served as a member of the CAHIIM Health Informatics Accreditation Council since January 2017.

Dr. Patrick was an innovative thinker and shared a broader perspective of health informatics education and accreditation related ideas.
