CEE Approves 2018 Health Information Management (HIM) Curricula Competencies

The AHIMA Council for Excellence in Education (CEE) establishes curricula for HIM programs at the associate, baccalaureate and graduate level. The CEE has approved the 2018 AHIMA HIM Curricula Competencies for implementation in the CAHIIM accreditation process.

CAHIIM Implementation Dates for the 2018 Curriculum

Candidacy Status: New HIM associate, baccalaureate and master degree programs that applied for Candidacy Status after March 1, 2019 must have implemented the new 2018 AHIMA HIM Curricula Competencies by the time of application submission.

Accredited programs beginning in the 2020-2021 program review cycle must have the 2018 AHIMA HIM Curricula Competencies implemented in all courses. These programs were notified in 2020. The Self-Assessment documentation will be due in the CAHIIM Accreditation System in 2021 by the assigned date.

As of September 1, 2021, all CAHIIM HIM accredited programs must be compliant with the 2018 CAHIIM Standards and 2018 AHIMA/CEE Curriculum.
